Activity Description: Describe in as much detail as possible.

What do you want the students to learn?

  • Students will learn that there is a direct affect between the amount of lichens and pollution. Pollution is caused by the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.

Set-up

  • Clip boards
  • Log books
  • GPS set up
  • Digital camera set up

What steps will the students take?

  • Student will find trees on campus and count the amount of lichens on trees near a road and trees away from the road.
  • Record their GPS location for each tree.
  • Take a digital picture of each tree.
  • Graph the coordinates and amount of lichens in each location.

Extra Activities?

  • Compare results with a rural school via video conferencing.
