Activity Description: Describe in as much detail as possible.
What do you want the students to learn?
- To distinguish between scalar and vector quantities.
- To distinguish between displacement and distance.
- To distinguish between velocity and speed.
Set-up
- Get runner to carry GPS during morning run.
- Upload data for distance, time, and speed.
- Overlap trail from GPS unit with Google Map for greenbelt trails.
What steps will the students take?
- Students will use data collected and projected to calculate displacement and velocity and compare to speed and distance.
- Compare and contrast scalar vs. vector.
