Activity Description: Describe in as much detail as possible.
What do you want the students to learn?
- Students will learn the different components of the ecosystem in their area. Students will learn how to identify different plants, fungi, insects and/or protists from field guides. Students will learn to record scientific data through learning about field data collection.
1. Students find 3 of each – producer, consumer, and decomposer.
2. Record GPS location.
3. Record time.
4. Record description of specimens.
5. Take photo of each specimen.
6. Identify species from field guides in classroom or internet of at least 4 specimens.
7. Make photo journal of specimen with all collected and researched data.

- Log books
- GPS training
- Digital camera training
- Set limits on area to be surveyed
What steps will the students take?
Extra Activities?
- Create a campus or class field guide from data and photos.
- Create permanent trail markers in area where specimens were collected.
- Construct map of specimens collected.
