Activity Description: Describe in as much detail as possible.
What do you want the students to learn?
- Students will describe the impact (good or bad) humans have had on the environment.
- Students will learn to record scientific data and learn about working in the field.
Set-up
- Poster-size drawing of school with coordinates for N.S.E.W. (Smaller reference picture from Google Earth of School)
- Digital camera/group
- GPS unit/group
What steps will the students take?
- Each group of students is given a list of situations to locate (evidence of point source and non point source pollution of air, water, and soil…habitat destruction, renewable and nonrenewable resources, recycling, CFC’s, parts of nitrogen, water, and carbon cycle).
- Mark location and give coordinates – number handheld map to show location of markers.
- Take picture of evidence.
- Print pictures and attach to poster size map of school area.
Extra Activities?
- Write letters to Observer explaining students concern over the changes in our area due to build up of local area.
- Find pictures of Atascocita area from 5-10 years ago to compare.
