Activity Description: Describe in as much detail as possible.
What do you want the students to learn?
- Students learn how GPS works, gain an understanding of satellites and how we can watch (observe) a certain object/person/animal group.
- Students draw, create chart a course for an endangered migrating animal/sea turtles.
Set-up
- Walk through GPS information.
- Gain site information on sea turtles and their migratory path.
What steps will the students take?
- Walk through GPS information.
- Study read, research sea turtles (Google Earth/other “pretend” sea turtles).
- Use GPS to chart a course on the playground to gain an understanding of how this would apply to migrating turtles.
- Watch over an amount of time (web) and chart a path for an assigned turtle (Google Earth, web, etc…).
- Each student will be assigned their own turtle to watch and observe.
