Activity Description: Describe in as much detail as possible.
What do you want the students to learn?
- Students will be able to use a GPS unit to conduct scientific inquiry (6.4A,B) and demonstrate that changes in motion can be measured and graphically represented (6.6B).
Set-up
- This exercise will require a large open area, a class set of GPS units, and a lab sheet with a table to collect data.
What steps will the students take?
- Students will be separated into groups of four.
- Two students will stand at one end of the field and two will stand at the other end to act as markers.
- A football or dodge ball will be thrown by the students with the GPS unit. The second group will mark the spot where the ball lands. GPS marks will be made at each check station x6 and will be tabulated.
- Upon return to classroom, data will be graphed by the students individually.
Extra Activities?
- Have students record each other running, etc., in order to get extra practice.
