Activity Description: Describe in as much detail as possible.

 

 

What do you want the students to learn?

 

  • Students will be able to see the distance traveled by the pilgrims from England to America. Have the students hypothesize how many days it took to cross the ocean.

 

 

 

Set-up

 

  • Set computers to Google Earth.
  • Find Plymouth England (starting point).
  • Watch as the visual map takes them across the ocean.

 

 

 

What steps will the students take?

 

  • Get on the computer.
  • Watch the tour.
  • Color and label map (England, ocean, America).
  • Make a book – My Voyage on the Mayflower.
  • Share book with the class.
  • How many pilgrims were on the Mayflower?

 

 

 

Extra Activities?

 

  • Re-enact the voyage on the Mayflower.
  • Make a ship out of cardboard.
  • Use rocking chairs to feel like the waves.
  • Discuss how the children felt after being on a ship for two months (sing songs, finger plays, poems).
